I am blogging like a madman (and the professor).

That’s a reference to a book about the creation of the Oxford English Dictionary.  (A wiki.  An admittedly slow-motion version, but still.)  The madman was the most prolific single contributor to the Oxford English Dictionary; he was, in fact, institutionalized in a hospital for the criminally insane.
